Migrating Boulders

Migrating Boulders was an online exhibition showed at Golden Cargo Gallery between October 1-15, 2021. The premise of the show and concept of the gallery, is that it takes place in an old bank vault in Quezon City, Philippines. The vault’s safety boxes are the storage space for the artworks. The artworks are exhibited through an online show, but can be viewed in the bank vault upon agreement with the gallery manager. Another aspect of the show, is that the works could not exceed the size of the safety boxes.

The series Migrating Boulders exhibited in the vault, consists of ten A4 sized mixed media works. The works are made with a mix of watercolour, acrylic, and ink on cotton paper sheets. The works display boulders in different compositions and refer to glacial erratics in different out-of-place landscapes. The glacial erratics have long been recurring object in my works, and the fascination how things move or migrate. It evokes a certain curiosity of, what happens to somethings that has been brought far away from its origins, and what purpose does it play in its new location. Like people and culture.
